Young insured drivers 'terrorising UK roads'

Young uninsured and unlicensed drivers can regularly be found on the UK's roads, according to a new report.

Car insurance customers may be interested to know that a report in Advanced Driving, the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) official members' magazine, claims young male uninsured drivers are racking up a staggering 3.7 million hours a month driving up and down the nation's roads.

Neil Greig, IAM motoring trust director, has said these drivers have a "high risk of crashing", which could seriously impact on the car insurance premium of any driver hit by one of these uninsured youths.

"We don't want to demonise young drivers, but research shows that uninsured drivers are typically young males living in urban areas – 60 per cent of those convicted of uninsured driving are under 25, and half are under 20," he wrote in the publication.

Insurer RIAS recently advised that simple maintenance tasks including checking tyre pressure, replacing worn windscreen wipers and cleaning lights and indicators could help drivers to save money on their car insurance premiums.
